こつん こつんと もりの うたTonk Tonk, the Forest's Song

森もりに 夜よるが きました。Night came to the forest.

こつん、こつん。たかい 木きの 上うえから、ちいさな 音おとが きこえます。Tonk, tonk. From high up in a tree, a tiny sound could be heard.

りすの もみじは、耳みみを ぴくんと させました。「なんの 音おとかな？」Momiji the squirrel gave her ears a little twitch. "What could that sound be?"

もみじは、そっと えだを つたって、音おとの するほうへ すすんで いきました。Momiji quietly climbed along a branch, heading toward the sound.

こつん、こつん。きつつきの ことらが、木きの みきを つついて いたのでした。Tonk, tonk. Kotora the woodpecker was tapping on the trunk of the tree.

もみじは、ことらの となりに ちょこんと すわりました。Momiji sat down right beside Kotora.

こつん、こつん。こつん、こつん。ふたりの まわりに、やさしい うたが ひびきます。Tonk, tonk. Tonk, tonk. A gentle song echoed all around the two of them.

もみじは、目めを とじて、そのうたに 耳みみを すませました。Momiji closed her eyes and listened closely to the song.

森もりも、風かぜも、星ほしも、みんな しずかに ねむって いきます。The forest, the wind, and the stars all drifted quietly off to sleep.
