あひるのユウくんと よるのいけYu the Duck and the Nighttime Pond

昔々むかしむかし、森もりの奥おくにきらきら光ひかる池いけがありました。その池いけのほとりに、あひるのユウくんが住すんでいました。Once upon a time, deep in the forest, there was a sparkling pond. By the shore of that pond lived a duck named Yu.

ユウくんは、真っ白まっしろな羽はねとオレンジ色いろのくちばしを持もった、とても優やさしいあひるでした。ユウくんには大切たいせつな友達ともだちがいました。かえるのケンくんです。Yu was a very kind duck with pure white feathers and an orange beak. Yu had a dear friend. His name was Ken the Frog.

ケンくんは緑色みどりいろの体からだに、大おおきなまん丸まるの目めを持もった、元気げんきなかえるでした。ユウくんとケンくんは、毎日まいにち一緒いっしょに遊あそびました。Ken was a cheerful frog with a green body and big round eyes. Yu and Ken played together every day.

ある秋あきの夕方ゆうがた、ユウくんが池いけで泳およいでいると、ケンくんの声こえが聞きこえました。One autumn evening, while Yu was swimming in the pond, he heard Ken's voice.

「ユウくん、大変たいへんだよ」"Yu, something terrible happened."

ユウくんが見みると、ケンくんが池いけの向むこう側がわで困こまった顔かおをしていました。When Yu looked, he saw Ken on the other side of the pond with a worried face.

「どうしたの、ケンくん」"What's wrong, Ken?"

「ぼく、おうちに帰かえりたいのに、道みちがわからなくなっちゃったんだ」"I want to go home, but I can't find my way back."

ケンくんの目めには、涙なみだがたまっていました。ユウくんはすぐにケンくんのそばに行いきました。Tears were welling up in Ken's eyes. Yu quickly went to Ken's side.

「大丈夫だいじょうぶだよ、ケンくん。一緒いっしょに探さがそう」"It's okay, Ken. Let's look together."

ユウくんは優やさしく言いいました。ケンくんはこくんとうなずきました。Yu said gently. Ken nodded.

森もりの空そらはだんだん暗くらくなってきました。お月つきさまがそっと顔かおを出だしました。The forest sky was getting darker and darker. The moon peeked out softly.

「ねえ、ケンくん。きみのおうちは、どんなところにあるの」"Hey Ken, what does your home look like?"

「えっとね、大おおきなかえでの木きの下したで、まわりに黄色きいろいお花はなが咲さいているの」"Well, it's under a big maple tree, and there are yellow flowers blooming all around it."

ユウくんは考かんがえました。黄色きいろいお花はなが咲さいている場所ばしょ。どこだったかな。Yu thought about it. A place with yellow flowers blooming. Where could that be?

すると、お月つきさまの光ひかが池いけの水みずをきらきら照てらしました。ユウくんは何なにかを思おもい出だしました。Then, the moonlight made the pond water sparkle and shine. Yu remembered something.

「あ、わかったよ。ついてきて、ケンくん」"Oh, I know. Follow me, Ken."

ユウくんはすいすいと池いけを泳およぎました。ケンくんはユウくんの後あとをぴょんぴょんとついていきました。Yu swam smoothly across the pond. Ken hopped along behind Yu.

池いけの端はしっこにつくと、小ちいさな小道こみちがありました。二人ふたりは小道こみちを進すすみました。When they reached the edge of the pond, there was a small path. The two friends walked down the path.

「ここ、暗くらいね」"It's dark here."

ケンくんがちょっぴりこわそうに言いいました。Ken said, looking a little scared.

「大丈夫だいじょうぶだよ。お月つきさまが道みちを照てらしてくれているよ」"It's okay. The moon is lighting our way."

ユウくんが空そらを見み上あげると、まん丸まるのお月つきさまがにっこり笑わらっているように見みえました。When Yu looked up at the sky, the round moon seemed to be smiling at them.

小道こみちを進すすむと、ほたるたちがふわふわ飛とんできました。ほたるの光ひかが、まるで小ちいさなランプのように二人ふたりの道みちを照てらしました。As they walked down the path, fireflies came floating by. The fireflies' light lit up their path like tiny little lamps.

「わあ、きれいだね」"Wow, how beautiful."

ケンくんの目めがきらきら輝かがやきました。こわさはもうどこかに行いってしまいました。Ken's eyes sparkled brightly. His fear was gone.

「ユウくん、あれ、見みて」"Yu, look at that."

ケンくんが指ゆびをさしました。向むこうに大おおきな木きが見みえました。そして、その木きのまわりには、黄色きいろいお花はながたくさん咲さいていました。Ken pointed ahead. They could see a big tree in the distance. And around that tree, many yellow flowers were blooming.

「あれはたんぽぽだ。ぼくのおうち、あそこだ」"Those are dandelions. My home is over there."

ケンくんは嬉うれしそうにぴょんぴょん跳はねました。二人ふたりは急いそいで木きの下したに行いきました。Ken hopped happily up and down. The two friends hurried to the tree.

大おおきなかえでの木きの根ねっこの間あいだに、小ちいさな穴あながありました。それがケンくんのおうちでした。Between the roots of the big maple tree was a small hole. That was Ken's home.

「ただいま」"I'm home."

穴あなの中なかから、ケンくんのお母かあさんが顔かおを出だしました。Ken's mother peeked out from inside the hole.

「ケンちゃん、よかった。心配しんぱいしていたのよ」"Ken, I'm so glad. I was so worried about you."

お母かあさんはケンくんをぎゅっと抱だきしめました。ケンくんは温あたたかい気持きもちに包つつまれました。Mother hugged Ken tightly. Ken felt wrapped in warmth.

「お母かあさん、ユウくんが一緒いっしょに帰かえってきてくれたの」"Mom, Yu came home with me."

お母かあさんはユウくんを見みて、にっこり笑わらいました。Mother looked at Yu and smiled.

「ユウくん、本当ほんとうにありがとう。ケンちゃんを助たすけてくれて」"Yu, thank you so much. Thank you for helping Ken."

「友達ともだちだから、あたりまえだよ」"He's my friend. Of course I would help."

ユウくんは照てれくさそうに言いいました。お母かあさんは優やさしい声こえで言いいました。Yu said shyly. Mother spoke in a gentle voice.

「もう夜よるも遅おそいから、ユウくんもうちで休やすんでいったらどうかしら」"It's already late. Why don't you stay and rest here tonight, Yu?"

ユウくんは嬉うれしくなりました。ケンくんと並ならんで、温あたたかいおうちに入はいりました。Yu was happy. He walked into the warm home alongside Ken.

お母かあさんが温あたたかい葉はっぱのお布団ふとんを用意よういしてくれました。ユウくんとケンくんは並ならんで横よこになりました。Mother prepared warm leaf blankets for them. Yu and Ken lay down side by side.

窓まどの外そとには、お月つきさまが優やさしく光ひかっていました。ほたるたちも、まだ近ちかくを飛とんでいました。Outside the window, the moon was shining gently. The fireflies were still flying nearby.

「ユウくん、今日きょうはありがとう。きみがいてくれて、ぼくとても安心あんしんしたよ」"Yu, thank you for today. Having you with me made me feel so safe."

「ぼくも楽たのしかったよ。ほたるの光ひか、きれいだったね」"I had fun too. The fireflies' light was so beautiful."

二人ふたりは静しずかに目めを閉とじました。葉はっぱのお布団ふとんはとてもふかふかで、気持きもちがよかったです。The two friends quietly closed their eyes. The leaf blankets were so soft and comfortable.

「明日あしたも一緒いっしょに遊あそぼうね」"Let's play together again tomorrow."

「うん、約束やくそくだよ」"Yes, it's a promise."

ケンくんのお母かあさんが、そっと子守唄こもりうたを歌うたいはじめました。優やさしい歌声うたごえが、二人ふたりを包つつみました。Ken's mother began to sing a lullaby softly. Her gentle voice wrapped around them both.

ユウくんは思おもいました。友達ともだちがいるって、なんて素敵すてきなことだろう。困こまったときに助たすけ合える友達ともだちがいると、どんな夜よるもこわくない。Yu thought to himself. Having a friend is such a wonderful thing. When you have a friend to help you in times of trouble, no night feels scary.

お月つきさまが窓まどから二人ふたりを見み守っていました。ほたるの光ひかがだんだん遠とおくなっていきました。The moon watched over them through the window. The fireflies' light grew distant.

ユウくんとケンくんは、優やさしい夢ゆめの世界せかいに沈しずんでいきました。明日あしたもきっと、楽たのしい一日いちにちが待まっています。Yu and Ken drifted into the world of gentle dreams. Tomorrow, another fun day surely awaits.
