はりねずみのハリくんと オーロラのゆめHari the Hedgehog and the Aurora Dream

森もりの奥おくに、小ちいさなはりねずみのハリくんが住すんでいました。ハリくんは、毎晩まいばん空そらを眺ながめるのが大好だいすきでした。小ちいさな窓まどから見みえるお星ほしさまを、一ひとつ、二ふたつと数かぞえていると、心こころが穏おだやかになるのでした。Deep in the forest, there lived a little hedgehog named Hari. Hari loved to gaze at the sky every night. When he counted the stars he could see from his small window, one, two, three, his heart would feel calm and peaceful.

ある晩ばん、大おおきなお月つきさまが輝かがやく空そらに、不思議ふしぎな光ひかりがちらりと見みえました。緑色みどりいろのような、青色あおいろのような、見みたことのない光ひかりでした。「あれは、なんだろう」ハリくんは、その美うつくしい光ひかりのことが気きになって、眠ねむれなくなってしまいました。One evening, a strange light flickered across the sky where the big moon was shining brightly. It was a light he had never seen before, something like green, something like blue. "What could that be?" Hari was so curious about that beautiful light that he couldn't fall asleep.

次つぎの日ひ、ハリくんは森もりの賢かしこいふくろうのホーさんに尋たずねました。「ホーさん、昨日きのうの夜よる、空そらにきれいな光ひかりが見みえたんだ。あれはなあに」ホーさんは、大おおきな目めをぱちくりさせて言いいました。「ホーホー、それはオーロラという不思議ふしぎな光ひかりだよ。遠とおい遠とおい北きたの国くにで、夜よるの空そらを色いろとりどりに輝かがやかせるのだそうだ」The next day, Hari went to ask Hoo the wise owl who lived in the forest. "Hoo, I saw a beautiful light in the sky last night. What was it?" Hoo blinked his big eyes and said, "Hoo-hoo, that was something called the aurora, a mysterious light. It's said to paint the night sky with many colors in a faraway, faraway northern land."

ハリくんの胸むねが、どきどきと高鳴たかなりました。「ぼく、オーロラを見みてみたいな。でも、北きたの国くには遠とおくて、歩あるいてはいけないよね」ホーさんは優やさしく笑わらって、一ひとつの秘密ひみつを教おしえてくれました。「昔むかしから、心こころから願ねがうものは、夢ゆめの中なかでオーロラに出会であえると言いわれているよ。今夜こんやは、空そらの光ひかりを思おもいながら、目めを閉とじてごらん」Hari's heart began to beat with excitement. "I want to see the aurora. But the northern land is so far away, I can't walk there, can I?" Hoo smiled gently and shared a secret with him. "It is said that those who wish with all their heart can meet the aurora in their dreams. Tonight, close your eyes while thinking about the light in the sky."

その夜よる、ハリくんはふかふかの落ち葉おちばのベッドにもぐりこみ、オーロラのことを思おもいました。きらきら輝かがやく、色いろとりどりの光ひかり。緑みどりや、紫むらさきや、ピンク色いろが、ゆらゆらと踊おどるようす。そんなことを考かんがえていると、ハリくんの体からだが、ふわりと軽かるくなりました。That night, Hari snuggled into a cozy bed of fallen leaves and thought about the aurora. Sparkling, colorful lights. Green, purple, and pink, swaying like a dance. While thinking about such things, Hari's body began to feel light as a feather.

気きがつくと、ハリくんは夜空よぞらを飛とんでいました。あたりには、星ほしがきらきらと輝かがやいています。「わあ、飛とんでる」ハリくんは、雲くもの上うえを飛とび越こえ、星ほしと星ほしの間あいだをくぐりぬけました。優やさしい風かぜが、ハリくんの小ちいさな針はりをなでていきます。When Hari realized what was happening, he was flying through the night sky. Stars were sparkling all around. "Wow, I'm flying." Hari flew over the clouds and passed between the stars. A gentle wind brushed softly against Hari's little quills.

どんどん北きたへ進すすんでいくと、空そらの色いろが少すこしずつ変かわってきました。暗くらい夜空よぞらが、薄うすい緑色みどりいろに染そまり始めたのです。やがて、空一面そらいちめんに、柔やわらかな光ひかりが広ひろがりました。「これが、オーロラなんだね」ハリくんは、思おもわずためいきをつきました。As Hari flew further and further north, the color of the sky slowly began to change. The dark night sky started to turn a pale green. Before long, a soft light spread across the entire sky. "So this is the aurora," Hari whispered with a sigh of wonder.

オーロラの光ひかりは、まるで大おおきなカーテンのようでした。緑色みどりいろや、紫色むらさきいろや、黄色きいろが、ゆらゆらと揺ゆれています。その美うつくしさに、ハリくんはしばらく言葉ことばが出でませんでした。The aurora's light looked just like a giant curtain. Green, purple, and yellow colors swayed and danced together. Hari was so amazed by its beauty that he couldn't say a word for a while.

すると、光ひかりの中なかから、ふわりと女の子おんなのこが現あらわれました。「こんばんは、小ちいさなはりねずみさん。私わたしは、オーロラの精霊せいれい、オーロラちゃんよ」その子こは、虹色にじいろに輝かがやく長ながい髪かみをしていて、透すき通とおった翼つばさを持もっていました。ドレスも、オーロラと同おなじ色いろに光ひかりっています。Then, from within the light, a girl appeared. "Good evening, little hedgehog. I am Aurora, the spirit of the northern lights." She had long hair that shimmered in rainbow colors and wore wings as clear as glass. Her dress glowed in the same colors as the aurora itself.

「オーロラちゃん、君きみはいつもここにいるの」ハリくんが聞きくと、オーロラちゃんは優やさしくうなずきました。「そうよ。毎晩まいばん、夜よるの空そらに色いろをつけているの。疲つかれている人ひとや、悲かなしい気持きもちの人ひとが、私わたしの光ひかりを見みて、少すこしでも元気げんきになってくれたら嬉うれしいの」"Aurora, are you always here?" When Hari asked, Aurora nodded gently. "Yes, every night I paint colors across the night sky. When tired people or sad people see my light, I hope it makes them feel a little better."

オーロラちゃんは続つづけました。「でもね、私わたしの光ひかりを見みるために、夢ゆめの中なかまで来てくれたのは、あなたが初はじめてよ。とっても嬉うれしいわ」そう言いって、オーロラちゃんはハリくんの手てを取とりました。「一緒いっしょに踊おどろうよ」Aurora continued, "But you know what? You are the first one who has ever come all the way into a dream just to see my light. That makes me so happy." She took Hari's hand. "Let's dance together."

二人ふたりは、緑みどりや青あおや紫むらさきの光ひかりの中なかを、くるくると回まわりました。光ひかりがリボンのように、二人ふたりを優やさしく包つつんでいきます。ハリくんは、こんなに幸しあわせな気持きもちになったのは、生うまれて初はじめてでした。The two of them twirled and spun through the green, blue, and purple lights. The lights wrapped around them gently like ribbons. Hari had never felt so happy in his whole life.

しばらく踊おどっていると、オーロラちゃんが言いいました。「そろそろ、森もりに帰かえる時間じかんね。でも、忘わすれないで。夜空よぞらを見上みあげて、私わたしのことを思い出おもいでしてくれたら、いつでもまた会あえるから」ハリくんは、こくりとうなずきました。「約束やくそくだよ、オーロラちゃん。ぼく、絶対ぜったいに忘わすれないよ」After dancing for a while, Aurora said, "It's almost time for you to return to the forest. But remember this: whenever you look up at the night sky and think of me, we can meet again." Hari nodded. "I promise, Aurora. I will never ever forget you."

オーロラちゃんが、そっとハリくんのおでこにキスをしました。すると、ハリくんの体からだが、またふわりと浮ういて、ゆっくりと降おりていきました。まわりの星ほしたちが、「おやすみ」「またね」とささやいているようでした。Aurora gave Hari a gentle kiss on the forehead. Then Hari's body floated up again and slowly drifted down. The stars around him seemed to be whispering, "Good night," "See you again."

朝あさになって、目めを開あけたハリくんは、夢ゆめのことを思い出おもいでしました。あのきれいな光ひかり、優やさしいオーロラちゃん、夜空よぞらを飛とんだ不思議ふしぎな感かんじ。全部ぜんぶ、忘わすれられない大切たいせつな思い出おもいでになりました。When morning came and Hari opened his eyes, he remembered the dream. The beautiful lights, the kind Aurora, the wonderful feeling of flying through the night sky. They all became precious memories that Hari would never forget.

それからハリくんは、毎晩まいばん空そらを見上みあげるようになりました。そして、眠ねむる前まえにはかならず、オーロラちゃんのことを思い出おもいですのでした。「オーロラちゃん、今日きょうもきれいに輝かがやいてね」そうつぶやいて、ハリくんは、静しずかに目めを閉とじました。おやすみ。From then on, Hari looked up at the sky every night. And before falling asleep, he always thought about Aurora. "Aurora, please shine beautifully tonight too," Hari whispered, and quietly closed his eyes. Good night.
