ほたるのひかりちゃんとそらのぼうけんHikari the Firefly and the Sky Adventure

むかしむかし、緑みどりの葉はっぱがさらさらとゆれる、静しずかな森もりがありました。その森もりの奥おくに、小ちいさなほたるのヒカリちゃんが住すんでいました。ヒカリちゃんのおしりから出でる光ひかりは、森もりの中なかでもとくべつに美うつくしいと評判ひょうばんでした。黄金色こがねいろにきらきらと輝かがやくその光ひかりは、夜よるになると森もりの小道こみちを優やさしく照てらしてくれるのです。Once upon a time, there was a quiet forest where green leaves swayed gently. Deep in that forest lived a little firefly named Hikari. The light from Hikari's tail was known throughout the forest as especially beautiful. Glowing a lovely golden color, that light would gently illuminate the forest paths when night came.

「ヒカリちゃんの光ひかりがあるから、安心あんしんして歩あるけるよ」と、森もりの動物どうぶつたちはいつも感謝かんしゃしていました。"Because of Hikari's light, we can walk safely," the forest animals always said with gratitude.

でもある日ひのこと、ヒカリちゃんの光ひかりがだんだん弱よわくなってきてしまいました。どんなにがんばっても、光ひかりはほんの少すこししか出でません。But one day, Hikari's light began to grow weaker and weaker. No matter how hard she tried, only a tiny bit of light would come out.

「どうしよう。このままじゃ、みんなの道みちを照てらせなくなっちゃう」ヒカリちゃんは悲かなしくなって、森もりのはずれの丘おかに座すわりました。夜空よぞらを見上みあげると、お月つきさまと星ほしたちがきらきらと輝かがやいています。"What should I do? At this rate, I won't be able to light the way for everyone anymore." Hikari felt sad and sat down on a hill at the edge of the forest. Looking up at the night sky, she saw the moon and stars sparkling brightly.

「あんなに遠とおくにあるのに、あんなに明あかるく光ひかりれるなんて、すごいな」ヒカリちゃんはため息いきをつきました。"They're so far away, yet they can shine so brightly. That's amazing," Hikari sighed.

すると突然とつぜん、空そらからふわりと白しろい翼つばさをもつ生いき物ものが降おりてきました。銀色ぎんいろのたてがみがきらきらと輝かがやいています。Suddenly, a creature with white wings floated down from the sky. Its silver mane sparkled and glittered.

「こんばんは。ぼくはペガサスのポポ。空そらを飛とんでいたら、きみが一人ひとりで座すわっているのが見みえたんだ。どうして泣ないているの？」ヒカリちゃんは自分じぶんの光ひかりが弱よわくなってしまったことを話はなしました。「みんなの役やくに立たてなくなっちゃうのが、怖こわいの」"Good evening. I'm Popo the Pegasus. I was flying through the sky when I saw you sitting here all alone. Why are you crying?" Hikari told him about how her light had grown weak. "I'm scared that I won't be useful to everyone anymore."

ポポくんは少すこし考かんがえてから、優やさしく言いいました。「それなら、夜空よぞらの王国おうこくへ行いってみよう。あそこには、お月つきさまがいらっしゃるんだ。光ひかりのことなら、きっと何なにかわかるかもしれないよ」Popo thought for a moment, then said gently, "Then let's go to the Kingdom of the Night Sky. The Moon lives there. Maybe the Moon will know something about your light."

「夜空よぞらの王国おうこく。そんなところがあるの？」「あるよ。ぼくのふるさとなんだ。でも、そこへ行いくには長ながい旅たびをしなければならない。きみ、行いってみる勇気ゆうきはある？」ヒカリちゃんは少すこし不安ふあんでした。でも、このままでは大好だいすきな森もりのみんなの役やくに立たてません。"The Kingdom of the Night Sky. Is there really such a place?" "Yes, there is. It's my homeland. But to get there, we have to take a long journey. Do you have the courage to try?" Hikari felt a little worried. But if she stayed like this, she wouldn't be useful to her beloved forest friends.

「うん、行いってみたい。でも、わたし飛とべないの」"Yes, I want to go. But I can't fly."

「だいじょうぶ。ぼくの背中せなかに乗のって」"That's okay. Just ride on my back."

ヒカリちゃんはポポくんのふかふかの背中せなかに乗のりました。ふわりと体からだが浮ういて、二人ふたりは夜空よぞらに向むかって飛とび始はじめました。風かぜが気持きもちよく頬ほほをなでていきます。下したを見みると、森もりがどんどん小ちいさくなっていきました。Hikari climbed onto Popo's soft, fluffy back. Her body floated up gently, and together they began flying toward the night sky. The wind felt pleasant against her cheeks. Looking down, the forest grew smaller and smaller.

「わあ、すごい。空そらを飛とぶって、こんなに気持きもちいいんだね」"Wow, amazing. Flying through the sky feels so wonderful."

「でしょう。ぼくは毎日まいにちこの空そらを飛とんでいるんだ」二人ふたりは星ほしたちの間あいだを縫ぬうように、どんどん高たかく飛とんでいきました。"I know, right? I fly through this sky every day." The two flew higher and higher, weaving between the stars.

しばらく飛とんでいると、前方ぜんぽうに大おおきな黒くろい雲くもが現あらわれました。もくもくと広ひろがるその雲くもは、まるで夜よるよりも暗くらい壁かべのようです。After flying for a while, a large black cloud appeared ahead of them. The cloud spread out thick and dark, like a wall even darker than night.

「ここを通とおらないと、お月つきさまのところには行いけないんだ。でも、この雲くもの中なかはとても暗くらいよ。何なにも見みえなくなるかもしれない」"We have to pass through here to reach the Moon. But it's very dark inside this cloud. We might not be able to see anything at all."

ヒカリちゃんは自分じぶんの光ひかりを思おもい出でしました。弱よわい光ひかりだけど、何なにもないよりはいいはず。「わたし、がんばってみる。ポポくん、わたしを信しんじて」ヒカリちゃんは一生懸命いっしょうけんめい光ひかりりました。小ちいさな光ひかりでしたが、ポポくんの足元あしもとをほんのりと照てらすことができました。「ありがとう、ヒカリちゃん。きみの光ひかりのおかげで前まえが見みえるよ」Hikari remembered her own light. It was weak, but it was better than nothing. "I'll try my best. Popo, please believe in me." Hikari glowed with all her might. It was a small light, but it was enough to softly illuminate the ground beneath Popo's feet. "Thank you, Hikari. Thanks to your light, I can see where we're going."

真っ暗まっくらな雲くもの中なかを、二人ふたりは助たすけ合あいながら進すすみました。ときどき強つよい風かぜが吹ふいて、ヒカリちゃんは必死ひっしにポポくんにしがみつきました。Through the pitch-dark cloud, the two helped each other move forward. Sometimes strong winds blew, and Hikari held on to Popo desperately.

「だいじょうぶ。もう少すこしだよ」ポポくんの励はげましの声こえを聞ききながら、ヒカリちゃんは光ひかりり続つづけました。"It's okay. Just a little more." Listening to Popo's encouraging voice, Hikari kept on glowing.

やがて、雲くもを抜ぬけると、目めの前まえには見みたこともない景色けしきが広ひろがっていました。たくさんの星ほしたちがきらきらと輝かがやき、天の川あまのがわがまるでリボンのように空そらを横切よこぎっています。Eventually, when they emerged from the cloud, an incredible sight spread out before them. Countless stars sparkled brightly, and the Milky Way stretched across the sky like a ribbon.

「わあ、なんてきれいなの」星ほしたちがヒカリちゃんに話はなしかけました。「ヒカリちゃん、よくぞ暗くらい雲くもを越こえてきたね。ぼくたちもむかしは小ちいさな光ひかりしか出でせなかったんだよ」「え、そうなの？」「うん。でも、だれかを照てらしたいという気持きもちが、ぼくたちを強つよくしてくれたんだ。光ひかりの大おおきさは関係かんけいないんだよ。大切たいせつなのは、光ひかりりたいという心こころなんだ」ヒカリちゃんは星ほしたちの言葉ことばを聞きいて、少すこし勇気ゆうきが出でてきました。"Wow, how beautiful." The stars spoke to Hikari. "Hikari, you did well to cross through that dark cloud. We could only give off a small light long ago too." "Really?" "Yes. But our desire to illuminate someone made us stronger. The size of your light doesn't matter. What's important is the heart that wants to shine." Hearing the stars' words, Hikari felt a little courage welling up inside her.

さらに進すすむと、ついに夜空よぞらの王国おうこくに着つきました。そこには大おおきな大おおきなお月つきさまがいらっしゃいました。やわらかな金色きんいろの光ひかりを放はなちながら、にっこりと笑わらっています。As they continued on, they finally arrived at the Kingdom of the Night Sky. There was the Moon, great and magnificent. Radiating a soft golden glow, the Moon smiled warmly.

「ようこそ、ヒカリちゃん。きみが暗くらい雲くもの中なかでも光ひかりを消けさなかったこと、わたしはずっと見みていましたよ」「お月つきさま、わたしの光ひかりはとても弱よわいの。どうしたらまた強つよく光ひかりれるようになりますか？」お月つきさまは優やさしく答こたえました。"Welcome, Hikari. I saw that you never let your light go out, even in that dark cloud." "Moon, my light is very weak. How can I shine brightly again?" The Moon answered gently.

「ヒカリちゃん、光ひかりの強つよさは問題もんだいではありませんよ。大切たいせつなのは、だれかのために光ひかりろうとする心こころです。きみは暗くらい雲くもの中なかで、ポポくんのために一生懸命いっしょうけんめい光ひかりりました。自分じぶんのためではなく、友達ともだちのために。その心こころが、きみの本当ほんとうの光ひかりなのです」お月つきさまがそっと手てを伸のばすと、ヒカリちゃんの体からだがふんわりと温あたたかくなりました。心こころの中なかから、何なにかがあふれ出ですような不思議ふしぎな気持きもちがしました。"Hikari, the strength of your light is not the problem. What matters is your heart that wants to shine for others. In that dark cloud, you shone with all your might for Popo. Not for yourself, but for your friend. That heart is your true light." As the Moon gently reached out, Hikari's body became softly warm. A strange feeling welled up from deep within her heart.

すると、ヒカリちゃんのおしりから、今いままでで一番いちばんきれいな光ひかりがあふれ出でました。黄金色こがねいろに輝かがやくその光ひかりは、まるで小ちいさな太陽たいようのようです。Then, from Hikari's tail, the most beautiful light she had ever made came pouring out. Glowing golden, that light was like a little sun.

「わあ、光ひかりが戻もどった。いいえ、前まえよりも明あかるくなってる」"Wow, my light came back. No, it's even brighter than before."

「戻もどったのではありませんよ。きみの心こころの光ひかりが、見みえる形かたちになっただけです。きみはずっとこの光ひかりを持もっていたのです。ただ、気きづいていなかっただけ」"It didn't come back. The light of your heart just became visible. You've always had this light inside you. You just hadn't noticed it."

ポポくんがうれしそうに言いいました。「ヒカリちゃん、本当ほんとうによかったね。きみの光ひかり、とってもきれいだよ」Popo said happily, "Hikari, I'm so glad for you. Your light is so beautiful."

「ありがとう、ポポくん。そして、お月つきさま、星ほしのみなさん、本当ほんとうにありがとうございます」二人ふたりはお月つきさまにお礼を言いって、地上ちじょうへ戻もどることにしました。ポポくんの背中せなかに乗のって、ゆっくりと降おりていきます。雲くもを抜ぬけ、星ほしたちに手てを振ふり、どんどん森もりへと近ちかづいていきました。"Thank you, Popo. And thank you so much, Moon, and all the stars." The two said goodbye to the Moon and decided to return to the ground. Riding on Popo's back, they slowly descended. They passed through the clouds, waved to the stars, and drew closer and closer to the forest.

「ポポくん、今日きょうはありがとう。わたし、これからもみんなのために光ひかりりたい」"Thank you for today, Popo. I want to keep shining for everyone from now on."

「うん。きみならだいじょうぶ。でも、たまには自分じぶんのためにも光ひかりっていいんだよ」"I know you will. But sometimes it's okay to shine for yourself too."

「うん、わかった」森もりに戻もどったヒカリちゃんは、美うつくしい光ひかりで森もりの道みちを照てらしました。森もりの動物どうぶつたちは、ヒカリちゃんの光ひかりを見みてとても喜よろこびました。"Okay, I understand." When Hikari returned to the forest, she lit up the forest paths with her beautiful light. The forest animals were so happy to see Hikari's light.

「おかえり、ヒカリちゃん。すてきな光ひかりだね」ヒカリちゃんはにっこり笑わらいました。夜よるも更ふけて、森もりは静しずかになりました。"Welcome back, Hikari. What a lovely light." Hikari smiled warmly. As the night grew deeper, the forest became quiet.

おうちに帰かえったヒカリちゃんは、今日きょうの冒険ぼうけんを思おもい出でしながら、そっと目めを閉とじました。夜空よぞらでは、お月つきさまが優やさしく見み守まもっています。Back home, Hikari remembered the day's adventure as she gently closed her eyes. In the night sky, the Moon watched over her kindly.

ポポくんも、星ほしたちも、みんなヒカリちゃんのことを見み守まもっています。ヒカリちゃんも、あなたも、すてきな夢ゆめが見みられますように。Popo, the stars, and everyone was watching over Hikari. May Hikari and you have wonderful dreams tonight.
