ほしのうみを わたる ふねThe Boat that Sailed the Sea of Stars

夜よる、ゆうとはベッドに入はいりましたが、目めが冴さえて眠ねむれませんでした。窓まどの外そとを見みると、大おおきな星ほしがひとつ、きらきらひかっています。One night, Yuto lay in bed, but he could not fall asleep. He looked out the window and saw one big star shining brightly.

すると、窓まどの外そとに小ちいさな舟ふねが浮うかんできました。舟ふねは星ほしの光ひかりでできていて、ふわふわと揺ゆれています。「乗のってみる？」と、舟ふねの上うえに立たつ女の子おんなのこが声こえをかけました。名前なまえはるりといいます。Just then, a small boat floated up outside the window. It was made of starlight and swayed gently. "Want to come aboard?" asked a girl standing on the boat. Her name was Ruri.

ゆうとは、るりの手てを取とって舟ふねに乗のりました。舟ふねはゆっくりと窓まどから飛とび出だし、星ほしの海うみを渡わたり始はじめました。下したには、街まちの明あかりが小ちいさな粒つぶのように広ひろがっています。Yuto took Ruri's hand and stepped onto the boat. It glided slowly out of the window and began crossing the sea of stars. Below, the city lights spread out like tiny grains of light.

星ほしの海うみはとても静しずかで、ゆうととるりは並ならんで座すわり、流ながれる星ほしを数かぞえました。「あそこまで行いくと、朝あさの光ひかりが生うまれるところがあるの」と、るりが遠とおくを指ゆびさしました。The sea of stars was very quiet. Yuto and Ruri sat side by side, counting the stars that drifted by. "If we go that way, we'll reach the place where morning light is born," Ruri said, pointing far into the distance.

ところが、途中とちゅうで大おおきな雲くもが舟ふねの前まえに立たちはだかりました。雲くもの中なかは風かぜがぐるぐる巻まいていて、舟ふねは大おおきく揺ゆれます。ゆうとは怖こわくなって、思おもわず目めをつぶりました。But suddenly, a huge cloud blocked the boat's path. Inside the cloud, the wind swirled and swirled, and the boat shook hard. Yuto felt scared and squeezed his eyes shut.

「かじを、いっしょに持もって？」と、るりが言いいました。ゆうとは手てを震ふるわせながらかじを握にぎり、るりと力ちからを合あわせて、風かぜのすきまを探さがしました。少すこしずつ、舟ふねの向むきが決きまっていきます。"Will you hold the rudder with me?" Ruri asked. With trembling hands, Yuto gripped the rudder alongside her, and together they searched for a gap in the wind. Little by little, the boat's direction became steady.

やがて、雲くもの間あいだから光ひかりが差さし込こみました。ゆうとが最後さいごの力ちからでかじを引ひくと、舟ふねはふわりと雲くもを抜ぬけ出だし、また静しずかな星ほしの海うみに戻もどりました。At last, light streamed through an opening in the clouds. With his final bit of strength, Yuto pulled the rudder, and the boat slipped free of the cloud, returning to the calm sea of stars.

「できたね」と、るりが笑わらいました。ゆうとの胸むねの中なかには、さっきまでの怖こわさの代かわりに、あたたかい気き持もちが広ひろがっていました。"You did it," Ruri said with a smile. Inside Yuto's chest, the fear from before had turned into a warm, happy feeling.

舟ふねは少すこしずつ光ひかりを弱よわめながら、ゆうとの部屋へやの窓まどに戻もどってきました。「また、あそびに来きてね」と、るりは小ちいさく手てを振ふりました。The boat's light grew softer and softer as it carried them back to Yuto's window. "Come visit again," Ruri said, waving her small hand.

気きづくと、ゆうとはいつもの布団ふとんの中なかにいました。窓まどの外そとの星ほしは、さっきよりもやさしくひかっています。ゆうとは目めを閉とじて、微笑ほほえみました。おやすみ。When Yuto opened his eyes, he was back in his own bed. The star outside the window shone even more gently than before. Yuto closed his eyes and smiled. Good night.
