よるのほしのふねThe Night Boat of Stars

夜よる、ハルがふとんに入はいって目めをとじると、まどの外そとに大おおきな光るひかる雲くもの船ふねがうかんでいました。船ふねの上うえに星ほしのおばあさんが立たっていて、「今夜こんや、星ほしの光ひかりが弱よわくなった村むらまで、光ひかりをとどけてほしい」と言いいました。ハルは友ともだちのミオといっしょに、その船ふねにのりこみました。At night, when Haru got into bed and closed their eyes, a big glowing cloud boat was floating outside the window. On the boat stood the Star Grandmother, who said, "Tonight, please carry some light to a village where the starlight has grown weak." Haru climbed aboard together with their friend Mio.

船ふねは夜よる空そらをしずかにすすみました。星ほしのおばあさんは小ちいさなランプをハルにわたし、「これが道みちしるべになる」とおしえてくれました。しばらくすすむと、まっくらな谷たににさしかかりました。谷たにの中なかはとてもくらく、ランプの光ひかりもどんどん弱よわくなっていきました。The boat sailed quietly across the night sky. The Star Grandmother handed Haru a small lamp and said, "This will show you the way." Before long, they came to a pitch-dark valley. Inside the valley it was very dark, and the lamp's light kept getting weaker and weaker.

「このままじゃ、道みちがわからなくなってしまうよ」とミオが小ちいさな声こえで言いいました。ハルはドキドキしながら、自分じぶんのむねに手てを当あててみました。すると、心こころの中なかに、村むらの人たちひとたちのわらった顔かおがうかんできました。ハルは大おおきくいきをすって、ランプにむかって「がんばれ」と話しかけました。"At this rate, we won't be able to find the way anymore," Mio said in a small voice. Heart pounding, Haru placed a hand on their chest. Then, in their heart, the smiling faces of the villagers came to mind. Haru took a deep breath and whispered to the lamp, "Hang in there."

すると、ランプの中なかの小ちいさな光ひかりが、ふわりと大おおきくなりました。ハルとミオが二人ふたりで手てをつないでランプを見つめると、光ひかりはもっと強つよくなり、谷たにの中なかをやさしくてらしました。二人ふたりはゆうきを出だして、一歩ずつ前まえにすすみました。Just then, the small light inside the lamp swelled up softly and grew bigger. When Haru and Mio held hands and looked closely at the lamp, the light grew even stronger, gently lighting up the whole valley. Together, they found their courage and walked forward, one step at a time.

やがて船ふねは谷たにをぬけて、村むらの上うえにつきました。村むらの人たちひとたちは、くらかった空そらに光ひかりがもどってきたのを見て、みんなで手てをふってよろこびました。ハルは、小ちいさなランプでも、ゆうきがあれば大おおきな光ひかりになることを知しりました。Before long, the boat crossed the valley and arrived above the village. The villagers saw the light return to the dark sky and waved their hands together in joy. Haru learned that even a small lamp can become a great light, if you have courage.

船ふねはゆっくりとハルのへやのまどまでもどってきました。星ほしのおばあさんは「よくがんばったね」と、やさしくわらいました。ハルはあたたかいふとんにもぐりこみ、ミオとかわしたやくそくをおもい出だしながら、そっと目めをとじました。おやすみ。The boat slowly floated back to the window of Haru's room. The Star Grandmother smiled gently and said, "You did so well." Haru snuggled into the warm blanket, and remembering the promise made with Mio, quietly closed their eyes. Good night.
