The Bridge of Light to the Moon
When Haru got into bed, before he knew it, he found himself in a dream. In front of him flowed a silver river, and on the far bank hung a big, round moon.
Haru wanted to go all the way to that moon. But the river was deep, and he couldn't find a bridge to cross it anywhere. "How can I get across?" Haru wondered aloud. A small light darted out from behind the grass. It was Ru, the firefly.
If you want to reach the moon, you should gather drops of night dew," Ru said. "Once you collect seven drops, a bridge of light will appear." Ru flew ahead, and Haru followed her light, walking into the forest.
Along the way, Haru found sparkling drops of dew on the leaves. He gently placed them in his palm and collected them with care. Just as he gathered the fifth and sixth drops, a thick white fog began to roll in all around him.
Ru's light blurred and disappeared into the fog. "Ru, where are you?" Haru called. He felt his heart begin to sink.
But when he listened closely, he thought he heard a gentle voice far away. It sounded just like his mother's voice, the one he always heard before falling asleep. Haru followed that voice, stepping forward through the fog, one step at a time.
After walking a while, the fog cleared, and Ru's light appeared before him again. "You did so well," Ru said. "The last drop was inside your courage all along."
As Ru spoke, the seven drops she had gathered rose gently and turned into a bridge of light, stretching all the way across the river. Haru crossed the bridge of light and gently touched the great moon. It was warmer than he had imagined, wrapped in soft, glowing light.
Thank you, Ru," Haru said. Ru spun around happily in one joyful twirl.
When Haru opened his eyes, he was lying quietly in his own bed, smiling. Outside his window, the real moon shone gently down. Good night.
