ゆきのせかいの ひかりのこThe Light Child in the World of Snow

夜空よぞらの 高たかい ところに、星ほしを 集あつめる 光ひかりの子こ が 住すんでいました。High up in the night sky, there lived a light child who gathered stars.

その 子こ の 名前なまえは リン。金色きんいろに 輝かがやく 髪かみと、星ほしの ような 瞳ひとみを 持もっています。Her name was Rin. She had golden shining hair and eyes that sparkled like stars.

リン の お仕事しごとは、夜よるの 空そらに 散ちらばった 星ほしの 光ひかりを 集あつめて、次つぎの 夜よるに 備そなえる こと。Rin's job was to collect the starlight scattered across the night sky and save it for the next night.

毎日まいにち 毎日まいにち、リン は 夜空よぞらを 飛とびまわり、きらきらした 光ひかりを 両手りょうてで すくいあげます。Every day, Rin flew around the night sky, scooping up the sparkling light with both hands.

ある 冬ふゆの 夜よる、リン は いつもより 遠とおくまで 星ほしを 探さがしに 出でかけました。One winter night, Rin went farther than usual to search for stars.

冷つめたい 風かぜが 吹ふく 空そらの 向むこうに、何なにか きらきらと 光ひかりる ものが 見みえます。Beyond the cold wind blowing through the sky, she could see something sparkling.

「あれは 何なにだろう？」"What could that be?"

リン は 不思議ふしぎに 思おもって、近ちかづいて いきました。Rin wondered and flew closer.

すると そこには、雪ゆきの 結晶けっしょうで できた 大おおきな お城しろが ありました。There she found a great castle made of snowflakes.

透明とうめいな 壁かべは 月つきの 光ひかりを 浴あびて、青あおく 輝かがやいています。Its transparent walls glowed blue in the moonlight.

「きれい……」"How beautiful..."

リン が 見みとれていると、お城しろの 門もんが ゆっくり 開ひらきました。As Rin gazed in wonder, the castle gates slowly opened.

中なかから、青色あおいろに 光ひかりる 小ちいさな 生いき物ものが 出でてきました。Out came a small creature glowing in blue.

「こんばんは。ぼくは アオ。雪ゆきの 精霊せいれい だよ」"Good evening. I'm Ao. I'm a snow spirit."

アオ は 透明とうめいな 翼つばさを 持もち、体からだには 雪ゆきの 結晶けっしょうの ような 模様もようが 輝かがやいています。Ao had transparent wings, and patterns like snowflakes sparkled on his body.

「はじめまして。わたしは リン。星ほしを 集あつめる 光ひかりの子こ よ」"Nice to meet you. I'm Rin. I'm a light child who gathers stars."

「光ひかりの子こ？ 本物ほんものを 見みるのは 初はじめてだ！ ぼくの お城しろを 案内あんないして あげるよ」"A light child? This is my first time seeing a real one! Let me show you around my castle."

アオ に 手てを 引ひかれて、リン は 雪ゆきの お城しろの 中なかへ 入はいりました。Led by Ao's hand, Rin entered the snow castle.

中なかは 全部ぜんぶ 氷こおりで できていて、壁かべも 床ゆかも 天井てんじょうも きらきらと 光ひかりっています。Inside, everything was made of ice, and the walls, floor, and ceiling all sparkled with light.

「まるで 星ほしの 世界せかい みたい」"It's like a world of stars."

「うれしいな。でもね、最近さいきん 少すこし 困こまって いるんだ」"I'm glad you like it. But you know, we've been having some trouble lately."

アオ は 悲かなしそうに うつむきました。Ao looked down sadly.

「どうしたの？」"What's wrong?"

「冬ふゆの 間あいだ、雪ゆきの 精霊せいれいたちは この お城しろで 眠ねむるんだ。でも お城しろを 照てらす 光ひかりが 弱よわく なって、みんな 眠ねむれなくて 困こまって いるの」"During winter, the snow spirits sleep in this castle. But the light that illuminates the castle has grown weak, and everyone has trouble sleeping."

リン は まわりを 見みわたしました。Rin looked around.

たしかに お城しろの 隅すみの ほうは うす暗ぐらく、小ちいさな 精霊せいれいたちが 不安ふあんそうに 集あつまっています。Indeed, the corners of the castle were dim, and small spirits gathered there looking anxious.

「わたしに 何なにか できる こと、あるかな？」"Is there anything I can do to help?"

リン は 自分じぶんの 手てのひらを じっと 見みつめました。Rin stared at her own palms.

星ほしを 集あつめる 力ちからで、光ひかりを 作つくれる かもしれません。Perhaps she could create light with her power to gather stars.

「そうだ！」"I've got it!"

リン は 両手りょうてを 胸むねの 前まえで 重かさねて、心こころを こめました。Rin placed both hands together in front of her chest and concentrated with all her heart.

すると 手てのひらの 間あいだから、やわらかい 金色きんいろの 光ひかりが 生いまれました。Then, from between her palms, a soft golden light was born.

「わあ、きれい！」"Wow, how beautiful!"

アオ が 大おおきな 声こえを あげました。Ao exclaimed loudly.

リン は その 光ひかりを そっと 天井てんじょうに 向むけて 放はなしました。Rin gently released the light toward the ceiling.

光ひかりは ふわりと 浮ういあがり、お城しろの 真ん中まんなかで 大おおきな 星ほしの 形かたちに なりました。The light floated up softly and formed into a large star shape in the middle of the castle.

温あたたかい 金色きんいろの 光ひかりが、お城しろ 全体ぜんたいを やさしく 照てらします。Warm golden light gently illuminated the entire castle.

「すごい！ こんなに 明あかるく なった！」"Amazing! It's so bright now!"

雪ゆきの 精霊せいれいたちが みんな 集あつまって きました。All the snow spirits gathered around.

みんな うれしそうに、金色きんいろの 星ほしを 見み上あげています。Everyone looked up at the golden star with happy faces.

「ありがとう、リン。これで みんな 安心あんしんして 眠ねむれるよ」"Thank you, Rin. Now everyone can sleep peacefully."

アオ が リン の 手てを ぎゅっと 握にぎりました。Ao squeezed Rin's hand tightly.

冷つめたいけれど、とても やさしい 手て でした。It was cold, but very gentle.

「どういたしまして。わたしも、すてきな 友達ともだちが できて うれしいわ」"You're welcome. I'm happy too, because I made a wonderful friend."

雪ゆきの 精霊せいれいたちは、ひとり また ひとりと、氷こおりの ベッドに 入はいって いきました。The snow spirits went to their ice beds one by one.

金色きんいろの 星ほしが やさしく 照てらす 中なか、みんな 幸しあわせそうな 顔かおで 目めを 閉とじます。Under the gentle light of the golden star, everyone closed their eyes with happy faces.

「リン、また 遊あそびに 来きてね」"Rin, please come visit again."

「うん、約束やくそく するわ。おやすみ、アオ」"Yes, I promise. Good night, Ao."

「おやすみ、リン」"Good night, Rin."

リン は そっと お城しろを 出でて、夜空よぞらへ 帰かえって いきました。Rin quietly left the castle and returned to the night sky.

振ふり向むくと、雪ゆきの お城しろが 金色きんいろに 温あたたかく 光ひかりっています。Looking back, she saw the snow castle glowing warmly in gold.

まるで 夜空よぞらに 浮うかぶ、もうひとつの 星ほし のよう。It looked like another star floating in the night sky.

リン は にっこり 笑わらって、自分じぶんの 家いえへ 飛とんで いきました。Rin smiled brightly and flew home.

雪ゆきの 精霊せいれいたちは、温あたたかい 光ひかりに 包つつまれて、静しずかに 眠ねむりました。The snow spirits fell into a peaceful sleep, wrapped in warm light.

きっと すてきな 夢ゆめを 見みている ことでしょう。They must be having wonderful dreams.

さあ、きみも 目めを 閉とじて。Now, close your eyes too.

リン の 光ひかりが、きみの ことも やさしく 照てらして くれるよ。Rin's light will gently shine upon you as well.
